How to read this
Every line here traces to a filing: a bill a legislature filed, a rule the Federal Register published, a rate a state set. We read the trade press, all 50 statehouses, the Federal Register and the state rate files every weekday, and publish what a nursing home owner would actually act on. Most of what we read does not make it here, which is the point.
A bill that is only moving is not a law. We say which is which and we do not put odds on anything, because nobody honestly can. Position in the process is the only signal that exists, so a bill earns a mention here by having advanced past a real hurdle, never by having been filed.
Want the full picture for your state: who the chains are, how the buildings are rated, what the state pays, and where the pressure is? Your state's report is free.
Straight answers
How often is this updated?
Every weekday. The line at the top of the feed says when it was last checked, and says so honestly when we cannot tell.
Is a bill that is moving already a law?
No, and this page never blurs the two. The lanes separate what is in force, what is enacted with a known effective date, and what is moving but unpassed. We put odds on nothing.
What earns an item a mention?
Advancing past a real hurdle, never merely being filed. Every item says what it moves for an owner, in dollars or obligations.
Is this legal advice?
No. It is SNFRadar’s read of the legislation, for skilled nursing owners and operators.
